The Starbase49.com history starts in 1999. On July 8th the domain name was registered to host my Star Trek site. I used to have a Star Trek section on my personal site, called RVTrek. Because there was no domain name available for that and because it wasn't a good name anyway, I decided to go for a Starbase style website. The number 49 comes from our address as our house has number 49.

The first version of the site was Flash based. Visitors could use the turbolift to go from deck to deck and visit the different areas of the starbase.

At the time there also was a Free E-Mail address service, a search engine and webring.

One of the most liked features was the Holosuite. The visitor was presented a story with two options at the end of each paragraph. This way he/she could influence the outcome of the story. At the end of the story, the visitor could write a paragraph of their own that would be added to the story.
