Konmar

6 years, 1 month and 14 days. That's the time I was an employee of Laurus, a Dutch retail company that exploits several supermarket formats in the Netherlands.

In December of 1999 I went to the local supermarket called Edah to find out if they could use a hardworking student trying to earn some money to pay for his education. I was accepted and on January 4th 2000 I worked my first hours.
In the years that followed a lot of things changed. Laurus decided to convert all of their formulas into one, Konmar. Our store was in the first batch to be converted. This conversion didn't bring the results they expected. Even worse, it almost was the end of Laurus and the French retailer Casino came to the rescue.

In the meantime I graduated form the Hogeschool Zuyd, receiving my Bachelor's degree, and went to the Eindhoven Technical University. After almost 2 years I decided to quit the University and look for a full time job.

On January 31st 2006 Laurus made public their plan to sell the Konmar and Edah formula to relieve their debts. This meant another period of doubt and uncertainty for all employees, but not for me. Last week I finally succeeded in finding a job and next Monday I am about to start for Widdershoven Architects in Kerkrade. Next Saturday is my last day in the supermarket. So after 6 years, 1 month and 14 days of working in the exiting world of retailing I'm finally starting my career in the world of Construction as an Architectural Drafter. I will surely miss my colleagues, and whish them the best in their struggle for keeping up the revenues.

As for me, I am ready for a new adventure.
