Lowlands 2005 - 03. Drums at the Top

This is part three in my LowLands 2005 report. Pictures of LowLands 2005 can be found in my Photography section.

Saturday
You don't get a lot of sleep on a weekend like this. I felt like I just went to bed when Anky woke me around 10 in the morning. Today we decided to avoid the long waiting times at the supermarket and get our breakfast at the festival area. The La Place sold nice warm cheese sandwiches and fresh orange juice. After this and some coffee we were ready to go.

The first gig I wanted to see was Zita Swoon at 5 PM, so we had lots of time left to hang around and do nothing. Paul decided he wanted to see some small bands in the India tent and went his way. Erik also left us and tried to get a spot in front of the stage for Apocalyptica. Anky and I heard that one from outside the tent, and after that decided to get some rest at the camping.

During Zita Swoon, who gave a great set by the way, Paul rejoined us. We were surprised by the Arcade Fire, a Canadian band that has a lot of, well, fire! One of the band members started to drum on everything he encountered, including the sponsor sign above the stage.

Next up were the Pixies. This was the second year of their reunion tour, but I failed to see them on last year's Pinkpop. I am glad I didn't give away this second chance. I never really listened to their music, but I quite liked it.

After the Pixies we headed over to 'De Hoek van Holland' for our rendez-vous with Erik. He had stayed in the Alpha tent for the day to see Nightwish and Marilyn Manson. He apperantly had a great time.

Now the countdown to midnight started. Accompanied by beer we counted off the minutes until Anky would turn 19. Paul tried to go see the movie 'Oldboy' in the Echo tent, but there were too many people in line, so he returned just in time to celebrate Anky's birthday.

After Anky got some phonecalls from relatives, my memory gets blurry, must be the alcohol....
