In the first five minutes of the movie, the honeymoon of Shrek and Fiona is hilariously summarized after which they return home to find Donkey in their house. He has troubles with his wife the dragon and would like to spend some time with his old pal. Shrek however does not feel much for that but before he has a chance to throw Donkey out of the door he is invited by Fiona's parents to meet up in their country. Shrek is afraid his parents-in-law will reject him but they travel all the way to the kingdom of Far Far Away anyway.

As expected, the parents are in shock. The Fairy Godmother and her son Prince Charming are not happy either with Shrek's arrival and they conspire with the king to get Fiona and Charming married.

Meanwhile Shrek and Donkey meet a little cat who turns out to be the assassin Puss in Boots and they undergo a great change in the hope that Fiona will stay with Shrek.

From beginning to end you will see references to other movies. From Spiderman to Mission Impossible. It's fun when you recognize the references, but when you're lacking in movie know-how the number of jokes in the movie are low-numbered.

But this movie is still one of the better in the genre. And it's always a nice excuse for adults to go to an animation movie without bringing the kids..
