Pinkpop 2004 - 04

The monday should have been opened by the LostProphets, but they got stuck in Götenburg with their tour bus. The replacement act was a dutch band called Wealthy Beggar. Now that was something else then expected so we were soon sitting in the grass with our first beer in our hands.

During the Sugababes' show we took another opportunity to drink away our shock of seeing 3FM radio DJ Giel Beelen naked on the main stage.

The first serious attempt to see a band was Franz Ferdinand at the North Stage. I was an instant fan. Catchy music where you can dance on!

The act of the Black Eyed Peas was a disappointment and Jet on the other stage only had one highlight: the song Are you gonna be my girl, known here as the theme for Vodafone commercials.

N*E*R*D gave away a tight show after a delay of 15 minutes. The girls directly in front of the stage were really forced to madness.

Lenny Kravitz was as always very predictable. A 20 minute version of Let Love Rule and a jam-session by his band during which the man himself was off-stage.

The final act for us was Muse. We already saw the show last year in Ahoy in Rotterdam and they just did it again. Goose bumps when Matt plays the piano and rocking when he gets his guitar. Excellent! They also brought the video screens with them which added to the atmosphere of the show.

After the last song the drum kit was completely destroyed by Matt and Muse was replaced by Jan Smeets, the festival's organizer. He told us they had to skip the fireworks this year due to the strict regulations on this in the Netherlands. As compensation we got thousands of pieces of paper and the sound of fireworks.

We headed back to the camping site where we said goodbye to Mischa. He skipped the last night on the camping site because he had to go to school the next morning. The remainder of the night we drank beer and made fun.

See you next year...
